Preventing corrosion at the ring wall interface of a storage tank
Storage tanks built on concrete rings or pads have a vulnerable area at the interface between floor and concrete. Due to movements during filling and emptying, an annular space is existent between concrete and tankfloor. The part of the floor outside the shell is called the "chime area". During rain storms, water may accumulate inside the dike walls, which may accelerate the corrosion process.
Viscotaq developed a specific system for sealing the "chime area" at the ring wall interface of a storage tank. Water infiltration at the interface between the concrete ring/pad and the tank floor is stopped by the combination of the VISCOSEALANT and the VISCOTAQ EZ Wrap. Both products remain flexible during its life span, which is of crucial importance due to the constant movement of the tank floor during filling and emptying.
The viscous elastic nature combined with excellent adhesion ensures that Viscotaq forms a water barrier at this area, thus preventing corrosion. Also it lowers the accumulation of water underneath the tank, extending the life cycle of the storage tank. Viscotaq performs well even under constant temperature changes and UV light.
